Double Down Live changes its name to High Dive

Well, if you were still getting used to calling the building at 210 SW 2nd Ave. Double Down Live instead of Common Grounds, it’s time to re-train your brain one more time. Apparently the folks at Double Down recently received a cease and desist order regarding the use of the name. So, with its one-year anniversary at hand (and a solid schedule of upcoming shows), Double Down Live will now officially be known as High Dive. Lock it in.

Here is the full announcement released today by Double Down Live:

This week, DOUBLE DOWN LIVE celebrates 1 year of continuing the tradition of live music at 210 SW 2nd Avenue.  At the time of our birth, there was some resistance to the change from Common Grounds, but we were confident we could live up to the challenge.  After hundreds of shows and memorable nights later, we think we have.   We hope you will join us for a thousand more, as another year and a slightly new chapter begins.

Starting today, Double Down Live is now known as HIGH DIVE.  We liked “Double Down”, and most other people did too.  But apparently, someone else liked it even more than we did.  So much so, that they trademarked the term.  A couple months ago, just as we were getting comfortable in our new digs, we received a “Cease & Desist” letter from a Las Vegas lawyer.  Either give up the name, or fight a potentially lengthy and very costly legal battle (which could still possibly end in defeat).   After some deliberation we chose the former option.

An exhaustive name search resulted in HIGH DIVE, a name that sounds snappy but also holds a meaning.  At the core, we are a neighborhood “rock bar” like so many others around the country, where people come together to see their favorite bands – or comedians, DJs, circus freaks, etc  - and drink a cold beverage with their favorite, like-minded neighbors.   Some might – affectionately, or not – call us a “Dive”.  Whatever you call us, we strive to do it well, on a higher level .  HIGH DIVE will continue to operate as a top notch venue, providing the best possible experience for concert goers and artists that Gainesville has to offer.   Rest assured, this is a change in NAME ONLY.  Staff, ownership, and most importantly the shows will remain intact.

PLEASE JOIN US THIS WEEK for a big string of shows to celebrate our  1 Year Anniversary
